Police hunting Chinese national in hit-and-run accident

first_imgAlmost one week after striking two teenage boys, killing one, and failing to render assistance, the driver of minibus GWW 2140 is still in the run.Traffic Chief Linden Isles has confirmed that the Police is currently hunting a known suspect involved in the fatal hit-and-run, which occurred at Annandale, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Sunday last.Isles told Guyana Times that the identity of the man – a Chinese national – was revealed after the minibus involved in the accident, GWW 2140, was discovered hidden in a bond at Mon Repos, ECD, on Thursday afternoon.The silver Pitbull was found covered with a tarpaulin, he noted, adding that after an inspection was done, the vehicle was confiscated.It was previously reported that two teens, ages 15 and 16 were struck on the Annandale Public Road, while traversing on a motorcycle.The pillion rider, Karchand Khemraj, 15, of lot 44 Annandale Public Road, ECD, succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) on Monday at about 03:30h.The cyclist, Razid Shaw, 16, of lot 35 Annandale Public Road, was admitted at the same medical facility and is still in a critical condition.According to the Police, their enquiries disclosed that as the cyclist, with pillion rider, rode out of a northern access road unto the main road, they collided with the minibus which was proceeding East along the northern carriageway.As a result of the impact, the youths were tossed onto the road surface and sustained head injuries.The driver of the bus made good his escape without rendering any assistance.However, 16-year-old Shaw remains in critical condition at the GPHC.Yacoob Shaw, the teen’s father, on Tuesday evening stated that there were no improvements in his son’s condition since the accident.“He deh just how he go in; he eyes can’t even open, but de doctor tell me that is something with de brain and it does tek long to heal,” the father related.The older Shaw told this publication that his family is hoping and praying for the best at this time.last_img read more
