Tim Vickery questions Chelsea’s signing of Brazilian whizkid Nathan

first_imgtalkSPORT’s South American football expert Tim Vickery has questioned Chelsea’s decision to recruit Brazilian wonder kid Nathan from Atletico Paranaense. The Blues are reportedly close to wrapping up a £4.5m transfer for the 19-year-old on Wednesday, with the youngster already taking to Twitter to voice his delight at the deal.Chelsea have pipped the likes of Manchester City to Nathan’s signature, but Vickery has doubts over both the price tag and potential of a player who is still yet to complete a full 90 minutes for his club.“It’s difficult to see why they [Chelsea] quite want to spend so much money on him,” said Vickery.“He’s a playmaker who can thread a little pass and did well at under-17 level but poorly at under-20 level. It’s difficult to see what he has done in the last season to justify it.” Chelsea have an abundance of attacking midfielders in their first-team squad and their Under-19s won the UEFA Youth League earlier this week, prompting Vickery into suggesting Nathan may be loaned out like many Blues youngsters before him.“I think you could see him as a potential first teamer for Vitesse Arnhem in Holland,” added Vickery.Chelsea have an affiliation with the Eredivise club which has seen a number of Blues players head out to Holland on a temporary basis in the past few years, including the likes of Nemanja Matic, Lucas Piazon and Josh McEachran.last_img read more
