Facebook Facebook Twitter meals on wheel mudbug logo It’s pretty easy to help feed the hungry in Odessa – you can do it by having a good meal yourself. The 20th Mudbug is set for Tuesday this year on the grounds at Ector County Coliseum, where Meals on Wheels of Odessa will look to raise a sizable chunk of its income for the year. The event features a Cajun buffet with crawfish, shrimp and more, and live and silent auctions geared to raise money for the organization. As in years past, Meals on Wheels of Odessa will look to raise more than $100,000 on that night, to help push the organization forward across the calendar.“It’s important,” Executive Director Margaret Burton said. “We only have one fundraiser. We’re unique.”Organization officials pointed to U.S. Census data listing 14,472 people aged over 65 living in Ector County in 2016, with 16.3-percent of those bringing in income at 125-percent of the poverty level or lower.Meals on Wheels of Odessa delivers more than 550 meals every weekday using dozens of daily volunteers.Burton pointed to several essential pillars that all work together and help prop up the organization. There are grants, first, from places like the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, or the United Way. Then there’s the organization’s annual contract with ORMC to provide main-course meals. There are, of course, the volunteers on the ground. But in one night, the Mudbug is another one of those supporting factors, like a leg under a table.“If you cut one off, you’re lopsided,” Burton said with a laugh. If You Go Previous articleMASTER GARDENERS: MicroGreens great for quick, tasty cropNext articleREUNIONS: April 15, 2018 admin Twitter Pinterest WhatsApp Local News

This article is only available to GBA Prime Members UPDATED with new photo on May 6, 2011Let’s say you’ve sold your old, leaky house and moved into a new, well-insulated home with Energy Star appliances. With all of its efficiency improvements, your new home requires 30% less energy than your old home. That’s got to be good for the planet, right?Well, maybe not — especially if you save so much on your energy bills that you decide to fly to Florida for your next vacation.A new book, The Myth of Resource Efficiency, casts serious doubts on the idea that efficiency improvements will lead to lower levels of energy consumption. The book focuses on the “rebound effect” — the increase in energy use that often follows energy efficiency improvements. (For more on the rebound effect, see “Getting More Efficient, But Using More Energy”.)The authors of The Myth of Resource Efficiency — John Polimeni, Kozo Mayumi, Mario Giampietro, and Blake Alcott — identify William Stanley Jevons as the first economist to describe the rebound effect. In his 1865 book, The Coal Question, Jevons explained the mechanism whereby energy efficiency improvements lead to increased energy consumption: “If the quantity of coal used in a blast-furnace, for instance, be diminished in comparison with the yield, the profits of the trade will increase, new capital will be attracted, the price of pig-iron will fall, but the demand for it increase; and eventually the greater number of furnaces will more than make up for the diminished consumption of each.”One hundred and forty-four years ago, Jevons wrote, “It is wholly a confusion of ideas to suppose that the economical use of fuel is equivalent to a diminished consumption. The very contrary is the truth.” Economists now refer to this principle as the Jevons Paradox. The Jevons Paradox takes many forms:As Joseph Tainter explains in the…
The Gujarat High Court on Monday admitted a petition of the State Congress seeking a directive to Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi to take an early decision on its demand to expel Alpesh Thakor as an MLA. After admitting the petition filed by Congress chief whip in the Assembly Ashwin Kotwal, a division bench of Justices S.R. Brahmbhatt and AP Thaker issued notices to Mr. Trivedi and Mr. Thakor, and kept further hearing on June 27. In the petition, the Congress also demanded that till the Speaker takes a final call, Mr. Thakor must not be allowed to exercise his rights as a legislator. The petition stated that though the Congress, through an application in April, had urged Mr. Trivedi to expel Mr. Thakor as an MLA, no decision has been taken yet by the Speaker, which compelled the Party to approach the High Court. On April 25, Gujarat Congress leaders led by Mr. Kotwal had approached Mr. Trivedi seeking expulsion of Mr. Thakor as a legislator claiming that he was no longer with the Party and that he was involved in “anti-Party activities” during the Lok Sabha polls. Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Mr. Thakor had resigned on April 10 from all the posts he held in the Congress, claiming he and his Thakor community were insulted and betrayed by the Party. Mr. Thakor was Congress secretary in charge of Bihar and was a member of all key Party committees for the Lok Sabha polls. Though Mr. Thakor had not mentioned specifically that he was resigning as an MLA or from the primary membership of the Party, Mr. Kotwal maintained that “resignation from all the posts” also include primary membership and as an MLA. Mr. Thakor, a prominent OBC leader, was elected from Radhanpur on a Congress ticket in 2017 Assembly polls.

Hormones made in the ovaries may make a womans breasts feel swollen, lumpy, or painful before or during menstruation each month.Up to half of women have this problem at some time during their life. It is most common between the ages of 20 and 45. It is rare in women after menopause, unless they are taking estrogen.SymptomsIn most cases, symptoms get better after menopause. If you take birth control pills, you may have fewer symptoms. If you are on hormone therapy, you may have more symptoms.Symptoms are more often worse right before your menstrual period. They tend to get better after your period starts.Symptoms can include:Pain or discomfort in both breastsPain that commonly comes and goes with the period, but may last through the whole monthBreasts that feel full, swollen, and heavyPain or discomfort under the armsThick or lumpy breastsYou may have a lump in the same area of the breast that becomes larger before each period and shrinks afterward. This type of lump moves when it is pushed with your fingers. It does not feel stuck or fixed to the tissue around it. This lump is common with fibrocystic breasts.Exams and TestsYour health care provider will examine you. This will include a breast exam. Tell your doctor or nurse if you have noticed any breast changes.advertisementIf you are over 40, ask your doctor or nurse how often you should have a mammogram to screen for breast cancer. Take the medicine exactly as instructed. Be sure to let your provider know if you have side effects from the medicine.Surgery is never done to treat this condition.Outlook (Prognosis)If your breast exams and mammograms are normal, you do not need to worry about your symptoms. zoom Israeli shipping company Zim Integrated Shipping Services (ZIM) has wrapped up the first pilot of paperless Bills-of-Lading based on blockchain technology.During the trial, conducted in cooperation with Sparx Logistics and Wave Ltd., the participants issued, transferred and received original electronic documents using the Wave Application. The pioneering pilot, first of its kind led by an ocean carrier, saw the containers, shipped by Sparx Logistics from China to Canada, delivered to the consignees “without a hitch”.ZIM, which is pioneering the new solution following a long market analysis, said that it is convinced that the blockchain technology and the Wave application can be the solution that will drive the trade to the digital era.The new blockchain-based system uses distributed ledger technology to ensure that all parties can issue, transfer, endorse and manage shipping and trade related documents through a secure decentralized network. The application is free for Shippers, Importers and Traders and requires no IT or operational changes.“I’m proud that ZIM leads the way in introducing blockchain technology to the shipping world, and congratulate our partners in this exciting initiative, Sparx Logistics and Wave Ltd,” Eli Glickman, ZIM CEO, said.“While we are still in the process of evaluating the technology, we are confident that this type of forward-looking ideas will advance our industry as a whole towards a more efficient and modern phase,” Eyal Ben-Amram, ZIM CIO, added.
Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov suggests that his old club should consider making an approach for Harry Maguire this JanuaryThe Leicester City centre-back had been one of United coach Jose Mourinho’s top summer targets along with Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld. But a potential move for the defensive duo failed to materialise with United having already conceded 26 goals in the Premier League this season compared to leaders Liverpool’s six.Now Berbatov reckons that Maguire’s strong World Cup displays for England in the summer make him an ideal candidate for United for a January move.“It’s always difficult to buy someone that’s really good in the winter window so if you are lucky enough to buy someone then you need to keep in mind how he’s going to integrate with the team,” Berbatov told BT Sport.“If it’s someone coming from a foreign league it can be more difficult than joining from an English team.Maguire says United need to build on today’s win George Patchias – September 14, 2019 Harry Maguire wants his United teammates to build on the victory over Leicester City.During the summer, Harry Maguire was referred to as the ultimate…“If you’re buying a central defender then you also need to think about who you’re going to partner him with because you could buy a really good player but if it doesn’t work out then that just causes another problem.“But I think they need someone at the back that’s comfortable on the ball and don’t buckle under pressure even when someone is attacking you.“You need to be calm, be able to pass the ball into midfield and carry it. I think they need a player like that.“I was really impressed with Harry Maguire in the World Cup because he was so composed on the ball and I like that quality in a defender because it benefits the whole team.”United will face Valencia in Spain tonight in the Champions League needing a win in order to have any chance of leapfrogging Juventus for top spot in Group H.But the Red Devils will have to make do without defender Victor Lindelof with both Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly doubts for the game at Mestalla.
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe believes Tottenham have what it takes to challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title.Eddie Howe saw his side lose 5-0 to Spurs at Wembley on Wednesday, a few days after they thrashed Everton 6-2 at Goodison Park.Spurs are now currently in second place in the league table after Manchester City’s 2-1 defeat at Leicester.Howe can now confidently say that Tottenham will push Liverpool all the way for the league title this season.Pochettino: ‘Happy’ Christian Eriksen ready for Spurs action Andrew Smyth – September 12, 2019 Mauricio Pochettino insists Christian Eriksen is “happy” and in the right frame of mind for Tottenham despite his failed summer exit.“Without a doubt,” Howe told Sky Sports when asked if the North London club is a title contender.“They’ve got the forward players and the creative players that can cause anyone problems. They are in great form and are very clinical – we had equally good chances but didn’t take them.”Tottenham have yet to win a Premier League trophy and the last time they came close was in 2015/2015 season when Leicester City pipped them to the title.
